Leeds United are “setting up” a deal to try and get a deal for Leonard Ngenge over the line.
According to Alan Nixon, the Whites are keen to secure an agreement with Nigerian Professional Football League side Ikorodu City for the youngster, who has also attracted interest from elsewhere.
The West Yorkshire side have richly benefitted from developing young players in recent years, with Archie Gray the main example.
Teenager Gray came in as a starter at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign when the Whites had a shortage of midfield options.
But even after the likes of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara came in, Gray retained his place in the starting lineup, being moved to right-back.
Although this was an unnatural position for him, the England youth international thrived in this area and did enough to earn himself a big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur.
This move helped Leeds to balance their books and bring some players in to strengthen their squad, with fellow academy graduate and ex-Millwall loanee Charlie Cresswell also helping to generate income this summer via his sale.
More talented players could be set to come through the youth system in the coming months and years, with Archie’s younger brother Harry Gray potentially one to keep an eye on.
After securing Category One status in 2020, the Whites’ academy has been a big part of the club and their youngsters have had the opportunity to prove themselves against some of the country’s best young players, with the U21s competing in Premier League 2.
And Leeds could add another very promising youngster to their ranks within the next two years.
