Tomoki Iwata set to become FOURTEENTH Celtic summer exit as he’s eyed for deadline day move to third tier English side
BIRMINGHAM CITY could launch a deadline-day move for Celtic’s Tomoki Iwata.
SunSport revealed the Japanese midfielder is considering leaving Parkhead in search of regular football.
Brum boss and ex-Celtic No2 Chris Davies is rebuilding his squad for a League One promotion tilt.
And 27-year-old Iwata could join Old Firm rivals Scott Wright and Ben Davies in the Midlands.
The Rangers winger is closing in on a permanent deal – days after the defender moved to Brum on loan.
Iwata could be joining them today after falling down the midfield pecking order under Brendan Rodgers.
It’s unclear whether Celtic would entertain a loan or would prefer a permanent switch for their utility man.
But there has been growing interest in Iwata from the UK and Europe after he failed to make the last two matchday squads.
He joined Celtic from Yokohama F.Marinos in January 2023 but has never managed to establish himself as a regular.
And with the Hoops working to complete an £11million deal for Arne Engels, and potentially bring in Luke McCowan, Iwata’s future is expected to lie elsewhere.
Celtic have already shipped out a host of squad men this summer as Rodgers trims his squad.
Benji Siegrist, Oh Hyeon-gyu, Bosun Lawal, Sead Haksabanovic and Yuki Kobayashi have all left permanently – with Mikey Johnston’s exit also agreed.
Kwon Hyeok-kyu, Marco Tilio and Gustaf Lagerbielke have gone on loan for the season.
Youngsters Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly also opted to join Championship sides Watford and Millwall.
