Breaking News:Nedim Bajrami wants to join Rangers as top Transfer Deadline Day priority shared at Ibrox

Nedim Bajrami is a top target for Rangers on Transfer Deadline Day as they look to close a deal, the Daily Record reports.

According to the outlet’s website on 29 August the Light Blues want to secure a loan-to-buy agreement for the Albanian who is keen to move to Ibrox after being relegated to Serie B with Sassuolo.

A central defender is another “main priority” for Philippe Clement ahead of the window closing, as the Belgian also looks to strengthen in other areas.

Ben Davies has completed a loan move to Birmingham City, while transfer exits have been agreed for Scott Wright to join him at St. Andrew’s [Sky Sports, 29 August] and Todd Cantwell to move to Blackburn Rovers [Daily Record, 29 August].

A versatile, experienced midfielder could be a crucial addition for Clement ahead of the 11pm deadline and Bajrami’s willingness to join will surely make him an attractive prospect.

There looks to be a decent chance of success after The Rangers Review reported on 28 August that the Gers had already entered into “advanced” talks.

It doesn’t look like being entirely straight forward after Tutto Mercato Web journalist Antonio Parrotto reported via X on 28 August that a loan-to-buy offer had been rejected as the Italian club don’t want to lose Bajrami.

Clement and Nils Koppen should have some extra room to manoeuvre if the Cantwell and Wright sales are expected to go through, amounting to a combined £800,000 in fees and two contracts off the wage bill, but will clearly have to be wary of overspending.

A centre-back looks just as important with Davies already gone and new signing Robin Propper already picking up an injury.

So after a frustrating transfer window and an indifferent start to the season deadline day looks set to be crucial for Clement’s hopes for the season, with a huge derby against Celtic at Parkhead immediately after the market shuts.

In other Rangers news, an update on a striker transfer before the deadline has emerged after a multimillion pound exit deal was turned down.
