Rangers fans will be hoping for a busy transfer deadline day and one transfer is now close as Philippe Clement looks for new additions.

The Gers enjoyed a flurry of activity early into the transfer window but the market has slowed down a little for Nils Koppen in recent weeks.

Since Hamza Igamane’s arrival from FAR Rabat on July 5th, Rangers have made just two signings – winger Vaclav Cerny and defender Robin Propper.

Rangers certainly need more additions and fans have been fearing that the window would end on a flat note, especially after crashing out of the Champions League qualifiers.

Yet with Ben Davies gone and Scott Wright following him to Birmingham City, Rangers may now have some room to manoeuvre in the transfer window.

Rangers close in on new defender

A new defender now looks set to arrive at Ibrox as Koppen taps into the Dutch market again.

Feyenoord-based website 1908 report that Rangers are now close to signing defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo.

It’s stated that Rangers already have an agreement in place for Kasanwirjo, which will see him arrive at Ibrox on loan.

Kasanwirjo will spend the season in Glasgow but Rangers hold an option to buy the defender as part of the deal.

The defender is understood to have flown over to complete his move overnight with a deal now close.

1908 claim that Lille – who have just qualified for the Champions League – were a ‘concrete’ option for Kasanwirjo but he is going to sign for Rangers instead.

Former PSV man Koppen will be well aware of Kasanwirjo’s talent and he will now present Philippe Clement with another option defensively.

Who is Rangers-bound Neraysho Kasanwirjo?

Kasamwirjo hails from Amsterdam and joined the Ajax ranks at the age of just nine, ultimately spending a decade coming through with the Amsterdam giants.

After 38 appearances for the Jong Ajax side, Kasanwirjo decided to chase first-team action elsewhere and joined FC Groningen in 2021.

Feyenoord were suitably impressed and, come 2023, they snapped up Kasanwirjo with the idea of adding him as cover for both Lutsharel Geertruida and Gernot Trauner.

The move to Rotterdam just hasn’t worked out though and Kasanwirjo has only played nine times for Feyenoord since his £1.25million move, as noted by Voetbal international.

Kasanwirjo spent last season on loan at Rapid Wien in Austria, making 27 first-team appearances across the season.

After failing to really break through under Arne Slot, Kasanwirjo’s fortunes look to be the same under new Feyenoord boss Brian Priske – a long-time friend of Clement.

The 22-year-old did start the opening game of the Eredivisie season but is now on the verge of signing for Rangers.

Primarily a right back or centre back, Kasanwirjo offers some flexibility at the back and Rangers will hope to tap into the potential he showed at Groningen.

Kasanwirjo has seven caps for the Netherlands Under-21’s but can also play for Suriname on the international stage.

After a difficult time with Feyenoord, Kasanwirjo will now be hoping to kick and play regularly for Rangers – especially with a permanent move on the line.
