Rangers could terminate Ianis Hagi contract after Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright transfer exits

Ianis Hagi could now have his Rangers contract terminated as he is surplus to requirements at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

The outlet reported on their website on 29 August that with Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright now set to make deadline day transfer exits the Romanian winger could accept a termination if no deal is agreed for him to stay.

Hagi and Cantwell have both been training with the B Team but, while the Englishman had put in a transfer request and did not turn out for the reserves, the Romanian has made clear he wants to stay and has put in strong B Team performances.

It won’t reflect especially well on the Light Blues if Hagi does end up being cut loose on 99 games, seemingly to avoid the financial ramifications of a clause in his contract [Daily Record, 13 August].

Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson has called for talks to be held to renegotiate the clause that his 100th appearance seems set to trigger, and the 25-year-old himself has indicated a willingness to do just that with his recent Instagram post (27 August).

Ferguson has also warned that the way this situation is playing out will have an effect on potential late signings as players and agents take notice of how the club treats those they employ.

But so far there has been no evidence of Clement or the club softening their stance so a termination can’t be ruled out.
