Sam Lammers one step away from leaving Rangers

Rangers misfit striker Sam Lammers is close to leaving Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

According to journalist Andrea Losapio, the 27-year-old striker is “one step away” from leaving the Glasgow club this summer.

Lammers enjoyed a successful loan spell at FC Utrecht in the January window, scoring 11 goals in 20 appearances for the Dutch club.

While FC Utrecht wanted to sign him in the summer on a permanent deal, they could not match his wages.

However, FC Twente have shown keen interest in taking him, and they are now close to securing his signature.

Their budget has been boosted after reaching the Champions League qualifiers, although it is unclear how much they are paying to sign him.

Rangers paid around £4 million to sign Lammers from Atalanta but he has failed to live up to the expectations at Ibrox.

Losapio wrote on X: “Former Atalanta and Sampdoria (player) Sam Lammers will return to Eredivisie after successful spell at FC Utrecht. He’s one step away from joining FC Twente from Rangers FC.”

Many Gers fans were expecting that Lammers would be sold in the summer after failing to impress Clement.

A return to Utrecht looks dead in the water, but it appears that he will still move to Eredivisie, and the news will come as a boost to the Bears who would look to recoup some money from his sale.

Rangers have been demanding a fee of around £2.7 million for Lammers, but he sought an annual wage of more than £1.25 million.

The Gers are looking to offload some of their fringe players in the next few weeks to recoup money that can be used to buy new players.

Clement is ready to offload senior players such as James Tavernier and Connor Goldson, while Ianis Hagi, Scott Wright and Todd Cantwell could also be sold.
