Celtic officially announced unexpected departure

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep the remainder of his squad together after Matt O’Riley’s exit, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old midfielder made his move to Brighton official on Monday (26 August), joining the English side for a Scottish-record fee after months of speculation.

However, O’Riley has not been the only Celtic star coveted by English and European sides in the summer window.

Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kyogo Furuhashi have all been linked with moves away from Parkhead.

Nevertheless, sources at the club say Celtic are not contemplating losing any more star men before the transfer deadline on Friday (30 August).

Celtic to stand firm on more exits as O’Riley seals Brighton move

Leicester City have been linked with a move for Hatate, while Man City are reportedly weighing up a swoop for Kyogo.

Top Euro clubs like Galatasaray and Atalanta have been linked with a potential move for United States international Carter-Vickers.

All three players have played a key role for Celtic in their recent dominance over Rangers in league and cup competitions.

Rodgers’ side have already lost O’Riley, Hyeon-gyu Oh, Sead Haksabanovic, Gustaf Lagerbielke and more this summer.

Adam Idah, Paulo Bernardo, Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel have been drafted in at Parkhead – with more potential incomings due before the deadline.

In other news, Celtic close in on three late-window signings.
