Breaking News:Tom Lawrence: ‘Write Rangers off at your peril for Celtic clash

Tom Lawrence has warned that writing Rangers off will bring out the best in them.

The Light Blues were unfancied in the build-up to this season due to a combination of going through yet another transitional period and Celtic looking on fire once again. An unconvincing start to the season – draw with Hearts, narrow win over Motherwell and Champions League exit – merely added to that.

But that was followed up with a resounding 6-0 hammering of Ross County at the weekend, the ideal time to build confidence ahead of facing Celtic in the first derby of the campaign on Sunday. Most have the Hoops as favourites for that one but Lawrence insists he and his teammates are used to be being written off.

He said: “I think everyone wrote us off before we kicked a ball, didn’t they? So we’re used to that and we look forward to it next week.

“I think it [being written off] brings the best out of you. You take it with a pinch of salt and that’s the main thing. You look to perform every time you get on the pitch.

“There’s nothing discussed about any social media comments or newspaper comments in the changing room. We’ve got a good group and we stick together bad times and good.”

The Wales international was pleased to put a show on for the fans at Hampden, grabbing a goal and an assist, and says he is always out to entertain.

He added: “Each game, that’s what we want to do, we want to put a performance on, especially at home for our fans. A clean sheet and six goals, it’s always nice.

“What’s it going to take next week to get a positive result at Celtic Park? For us to play the way that we know we can do. That’s what we try to do every game. We know it’s a big game and we look forward to them.”
