‘Imminent’ Rangers exit for ‘Big Wage’ ace to free Clement for late signings – report

Ben Davies’ exit to Birmingham City will now give Philippe Clement the freedom to make Rangers signings before the transfer window closes, according to the Daily Record.

The paper reported via their website on 23 August that the Gers boss will benefit from the centre-back’s “big wage” departing and give him room to manoeuvre.

Clement has been frustrated by a lack of outgoings since the sales of Sam Lammers and Connor Goldson, which has hindered his ability to add his own new arrivals.

But he is expected to be able to strengthen in the final week of the window once Davies, 29, completes an expected loan-to-buy move to St. Andrew’s, where Chris Davies is pushing to get him in as soon as possible.

Rangers replaced Connor Goldson with Robin Propper

Nils Koppen was able to move fast the last time a senior centre-back was moved on from Ibrox this summer as he replaced Connor Goldson with FC Twente captain Robin Propper.

The Dutchman hasn’t necessarily settled in the side yet but Clement will hope the departure of Davies will lead to another key signing arriving straight away, and potentially more.

It is going to need to be a quick turnaround either way since the deadline is on 30 August and the Light Blues so far look various players short.

Clement has made no secret of the logjam that has developed as he struggles to get rid of unwanted players so he will surely hope to find new homes for Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi next.

There are numerous names who could happily be sacrificed form the current squad but with the attacking pair in the B Team, for very different reasons, they are providing the manager with no value as things stand.
