SHOCKING NEWS;Everton deal has collapse finally due to
Willy Gnonto could still become an Everton player before the end of the transfer window as he pushes to leave Leeds United.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri posted on X (21 August) to report that the 20-year-old Italy winger is “pushing to leave” Elland Road as Leeds chase two new wingers, opening the door at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have made no secret of their long-term interest in the forward, dating back to the summer 2023 transfer window, and have been tipped to re-enter talks for Gnonto before the 30 August deadline [TEAMtalk, 6 August].
Gnonto has already been subject to a £23million bid from the Blues which was knocked back by Leeds, but with the Italian keen on an exit, the time is ripe for Sean Dyche’s side to swoop back into contention.
Willy Gnonto signing could complete Everton transfer business
The Toffees are hardly awash with cash after some headline signings so far [The Athletic, 9 August], and as the window ticks towards its climax, completing a deal for Gnonto would be the biggest of the lot.
Leeds have already seen two of last season’s key attacking players – Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter – leave, and thus would be unlikely to let Gnonto go without putting up a fight.
However, should Gnonto make clear his intention to leave Elland Road for Goodison Park – as he did last summer – it remains to be seen if Leeds will sanction a transfer [TEAMtalk, 22 July], despite replacements being lined up.
Dyche’s side have already done business with Leeds this summer, bringing Jack Harrison back to Goodison on a second consecutive season-long loan, but their options out wide can still be reinforced.
Jesper Lindstrom is another loanee expected to make a big impact, but competition for him, Harrison and Dwight McNeil in the form of Gnonto will give Dyche a welcome selection headache on the flanks.
