SAD NEWS FOR EVERTON:he is gone..

Reading have made an enquiry about signing Everton defender Reece Welch, sources have told Football Insider.

Everton have high hopes for the centre-back, 20, and believe a loan move will be the ideal next stage in his development.

The England Under-20 international spent the first half last season on loan at Forest Green, and he has featured for the Everton first-team in pre-season.

Welch played and impressed for Everton’s Under-21s side in Tuesday’s Bristol Street Motors win over Tranmere.

Football Insider revealed (August 19) that Leyton Orient have also registered their interest in signing Everton defender Reece Welch on loan.

Everton willing to let Reece Welch join Reading on loan

Welch made his debut for Everton’s first team in their 2-0 FA Cup fifth-round win over Boreham Woodin 2022, coming off the bench for the final minute of the game.

The youngster then started for his boyhood club in their 1-0 League Cup win over Fleetwood Town in the same year but is yet to feature in the Premier League.

Reading are in dire need of shoring up their defence after conceding 70 goals in League One last season following their relegation from the Championship.

The ex-Premier League club finished 17th in English football’s third tier last season but are off to a better start this campaign after a draw against Birmingham City in their opener and a 2-0 win over Wigan.

In other news, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could still leave Everton before the transfer window closes.
