SAD DEPARTURE;Philip Clement announces the departure of Ianis Hagi few minutes ago..
Rangers could be close to finding a new home for Ianis Hagi with Rapid Bucharest pushing to sign him, according to Emanuel Rosu.
Romanian journalist Rosu reported on X [21 August] that Rapid are “pushing to sign” Hagi with days of the transfer window remaining.
Hagi has been bombed out to the B team in Glasgow with Philippe Clement not including the midfielder as part of his plans.
It has now emerged that a route back to his native Romania could be on the cards, with Rapid chasing Hagi after selling striker Albion Rrahmani to Sparta Prague – a previous Gers target.
Rangers and Ianis Hagi to finally go their separate ways?
It’s a tricky one for Hagi at the moment, having to come back to a management that do not want him any longer after starring for his nation up until the knockout stages of Euro 2024.
Granted, Hagi’s loan at Alaves last season did not go to plan, but his performances with the Rangers B team have shown that his talent far belies the competition he is currently facing.
The 25-year-old has been reported to be settled with the Light Blues [Football Scotland, 19 August] and would have continued playing for the club had Clement and his backroom team not wanted him gone.
It has been strongly mooted that the ruthless decision regarding Hagi’s future is down to a clause in his contract which would apparently see him paid an added £6,000 per week if he was to make his 100th appearance for the club [Daily Record, 13 August].
He is currently on 99, and has been for the past year. This was a deal supposedly struck when Michael Beale was in charge, before his loan to Spain.
Gers fans in their majority will be hoping to draw a line under the inevitable departure of Hagi and wish him well back on the continent should the transfer go through.
