SHOCKING NEWS:philippe Clement announce the suspension of two key players due to

Brandon Williams looks set to become a “person of interest” for Rangers manager Philippe Clement, according to Keith Jackson.

The Daily Record journalist reported on Friday (16 August) that the 23-year-old, who has been a free agent since being released by Manchester United at the end of last season, is someone who has been discussed behind the scenes at Ibrox since his Old Trafford exit.

It is understood that with Ridvan Yilmaz getting injured against Dynamo Kyiv this week, one-time England Under-21 international Williams could become someone who Clement wants to bring in before the transfer window shuts on 30 August.

“I have a name,” said Jackson, in a video clip on the Daily Record Sport X account on Friday morning (16 August). “This name, I believe, has been circling around the inner sanctums at Rangers since the end of last season.

“The name is Brandon Williams, who, I don’t know if you recall, was a bit of a golden boy when he had a big breakthrough season at Man United about five years ago.”

Jackson added: “He is a free agent. He returned to United at the end of last season (from Ipswich) and United announced in June that they wouldn’t be renewing his contract.

“He is somebody that’s been interesting Rangers for a while and you just wonder if it comes to pass, if the Yilmaz injury is as bad as they’re thinking it might be, I wonder if Brandon Williams will be a player who becomes a person of interest for Philippe Clement.”

Rangers could sign former Manchester United “golden boy” Brandon Williams

Williams is someone who was very highly rated when he burst onto the scene at Man United but now, at the age of 23, he’s without a club with the new season underway after a failed loan spell at Ipswich.

Last season, the Tractor Boys signed Williams on loan from Man United and it seemed like he was starting life at Portman Road quite well.

He played in 10 Championship matches in a row and even scored in games against Huddersfield and Preston.

However, injury and illness would then continually hit Williams and he ended the campaign with just 17 appearances across all competitions.

There have also been issues in his life outside of football.

As per the Daily Mail in April, the ex-Norwich and Ipswich loanee will go on trial next year after being accused of crashing his Audi in Cheshire while inhaling laughing gas. He pleaded not guilty and also denied the charge of driving without valid insurance.

Williams was reportedly earning £65,000-a-week at the time before his deal at Man United expired.
