Shocking news: Celtic announced a new ownership

The winger had a great loan spell away from Celtic in the second half of last season and attracted a lot of interest from English Championship clubs, yet there hasn’t been any movement in regards to a possible exit.

Johnston is entering his eighth season with Celtic but has struggled with consistency and injuries, limiting his impact on the first team.

Johnston remains on the fringes of Rodgers’ plans. He’s had to appear from off the bench this season and has been used as Kyogo’s backup before Adam Idah was brought back to the club.

However, last weekend, Johnston was involved in quite a nasty collision, and therefore, will miss the cup match this weekend.

The manager clearly rates the Ireland international highly. in the past, he’s talked about his quality, even going as far to say he’s one of the best quality players that the academy ha produced, yet it just hasn’t worked out at Celtic.

Rodgers spoke openly about Johnston’s situation, saying, “I’m open at the moment in terms of where things are at,” he told Celtic TV.

“I gave Mikey his debut back when he was 18 and played him so we’ve got a good relationship and we talk openly.

“I think he’s at the stage, Mikey, where he’ll probably want to play more. But he’s worked hard over pre-season and put himself in a really good position.

“There are some clubs that have shown interest in him, but we’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks.”
