SHOCKING:Sean Dyche announce the suspension of two key players few minutes ago..

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have agreed Everton will stay in the Premier League again this season and have a campaign similar to last year.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast [16 August], the former England strikers claimed it will be a tough campaign, but Sean Dyche will help steer the club away from immediate danger after doing a “miraculous” job in 2023-24.

Everton navigated their way through eight points’ worth of deductions for PSR breaches to comfortably avoid relegation with several games to spare.

“Onto Everton, obviously struggled last season but Sean Dyche did a miraculous job despite the points deductions that they got,” analysed Lineker.

“More of the same I think for Everton, still one or two question marks,” responded Shearer.

“I think it will be another tough season for them, but with Sean in charge I would think they’ll have enough to avoid relegation – but something similar to what happened last season I would think.”

Lineker continued: “I’m going to say they’ll struggle to avoid relegation but they won’t go down because of Sean Dyche.”

Everton set for similar season to the last?

Everton certainly have Dyche to thank for the way they refused to be dragged into a full-on relegation dogfight last term – as for the majority of the season, it appeared it would be the case.

This was compounded with the points dockings the club suffered, putting them in grave danger of going one worse than when they clawed to safety on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

The Toffees finished last term 14 points clear of the relegation zone, and would hypothetically have finished 12th if not for their deductions.

Dyche is the man who can be trusted to lead the team not to be distracted by the boardroom chaos on Merseyside, despite which the club still have Jarrad Branthwaite, Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in their ranks.

Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young have both extended their deals, whilst Amadou Onana’s sale brings in a very welcome £50m – Jake O’Brien and Iliman Ndiaye have been the club’s major summer signings to date.

In other Everton news, Dyche reveals the next steps for Dele Alli as he continues to train with the club.
