Rangers face Cyriel Dessers transfer dilemma as Peruvian domino waits to fall in Italy

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers continues to overcome his doubters at Ibrox with two goals in two games this week.

The Nigerian hitman popped up in the final minute to equalise against Dynamo Kiev in Poland, before returning to Scotland to open the scoring v Motherwell.

But despite adding to his goal tally from last season, there remains big doubts around Cyriel Dessers with several in the Rangers support still unconvinced.

Whilst the 29-year-old is finding the net there are still a number of big chances missed and as Philippe Clement calls for Champions League efficiency this week, all eyes are on the ex-Cremonese hitman.

But just as things start to turn for Cyriel Dessers at Ibrox, there’s been a suggestion the striker could return to Italy this month.

Dessers wanted in Serie A

Cyriel Dessers is reportedly a target for Serie A club Cagliari.

That’s according to reports in Italy, which have suggested the former Serie A striker could return to the division only one year on from signing for Rangers.

It’s claimed that Cagliari have Cyriel Dessers on a shortlist to potentially replace Peruvian striker Gianluca Lapadula Vargas at the club.

Whilst the 34-year-old remains at Cagliari for the time being, that could change heading into the final furlong of the window with any exit set to ‘accelerate’ a move for Dessers.

Rangers striker ‘would like to stay’

Naturally, the reports represent a conflict for the wider Rangers support whose collective opinion on the striker is about as consistent as the hitman’s finishing.

It’s not the first time Cyriel Dessers has been linked to the Rangers exit door this summer either.

Reports earlier in the window strongly linked Dessers with a move to Greece whilst there have been murmurs around interest in Saudi Arabia.

With Rangers in transition and the club still building the fitness of Brazilian striker Danilo, Cyriel Dessers is really the only fit option at Ibrox.

Hamza Igamane is a long-term project signing and if Rangers were to let the Belgian-born ex-Feyenoord striker go, there would be some big boots to fill.
