JUST IN:Everton deal collapse finally..
Kalvin Phillips should be on the move before the transfer deadline with Everton not alone in the race to sign him, according to Fabrizio Romano.
In his Playback TV show on 9 August the Italian journalist said the Englishman is expected to leave Manchester City during the current window, with the Toffees the only suitor he named.
Sean Dyche thinks he can help revive the 28-year-old’s fortunes after he lost his place in the England set up off the back of a nightmare loan at West Ham last season [Mirror, 28 May].
Romano said (22m 20s): “Kalvin Phillips, there is interest from Everton. Not only Everton but for Kalvin Phillips there could be movement I think in the next weeks because he is still expected to leave Manchester City.”
Sean Dyche wants Amadou Onana replacement for Everton
There looks to be little point in Phillips remaining at the Etihad since Pep Guardiola has never really needed him and his form has regressed without enough football since leaving Leeds United.
The midfielder is said to be ready to play for Dyche at Goodison if a deal can be worked out [TEAMtalk, 22 July] but the Toffees want a loan and City want to offload him permanently.
Since Amadou Onana made his big-money switch to Aston Villa Everton have needed another option in the middle to restock the squad.
They looked to be prominently placed in the race for Amir Richardson from Reims [L’Equipe, 7 August] but a bid has now been accepted from Fiorentina [Gianluca Di Marzio, 8 August].
Lesley Ugochukwu at Chelsea is an option as the youngster is being lined up for a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge [Foot Mercato, 13 July], where stunning spending continues, but is sure to be in demand.
