New captain believes Rangers have lured an ‘incredibly important’ teammate to Ibrox

Rangers still have work to do before the transfer window closes but Philippe Clement should be happy with the arrival of Robin Propper.

The Gers had been on something of a youth movement in the early stages of the summer transfer window.

Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane all joined the club aged under 21.

That is exciting for the future but maybe not the immediate impact Rangers need in order to launch a title push this season.

Vaclav Cerny represented more of an instant game-changer signing for Rangers and he showed exactly why with a superb assist against Dynamo Kyiv in midweek.

Rangers needed experience and that is why links to the likes of Kenny McLean and even John Fleck have emerged.

Robin Propper arrival

Rangers did land an experienced player last week though as defender Robin Propper arrived from Twente.

Propper was club captain at Twente and had impressed Dutch pundits before his move to Ibrox.

The 30-year-old was a real leader in the Netherlands and now heads to Rangers to replace Connor Goldson in the heart of Clement’s back four.

Transfer chief Nils Koppen is a former PSV Eindhoven man, so knows all about Propper’s Eredivisie exploits, whilst recent addition Cerny was a teammate of the defender in Enschede.

Propper has yet to make an appearance in a Rangers shirt but the 30-year-old should play a key role moving forward.

The deal came as a hammer blow to Twente, who are hoping to qualify for the Champions League.

Twente have now been forced to nominate a new captain and boss Joseph Oosting has gone with Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Twente star on Robin Propper exit

The Dutch striker may be familiar to some having previously played in the Premier League with Norwich City.

Van Wolfswinkel has now commented on Propper’s exit as he steps up into a new leadership role.
