Breaking News:Rangers ace given strong defence amid blame game + exit
Kris Boyd hopes Rangers don’t sell James Tavernier this summer amid a culture of criticism around the captain.
The experienced right-back has been subject of interest from Trabzonspor in Turkey, who have already signed ex-Ibrox teammates Borna Barisic and John Lundstram. He has started both of the club’s competitive matches this season against Hearts and Dynamo Kyiv
The transformation that will see Hampden play host to Rangers has begun ahead of the Light Blues first ‘home’ game of the season.
Injury hit Motherwell visit the national stadium this Saturday as Philippe Clement’s team begin their tenancy at the national stadium. Supply chain issues have delayed works being done on the Copland Road stand at Ibrox, forcing the Gers out of Govan for the time being after striking a deal with the Scottish FA to relocate.
How long they will be there remains to be seen. Chairman John Bennett is hopeful of being back at Ibrox for the last game in September following the first international break of the campaign. But in an update last month, he insisted that was aspirational and it could well be October before team and fans are back in their spiritual home. That means at least a couple of months at Mount Florida, which could have a major impact on their season.
Rangers are already playing catch up in the title race after a goalless draw away to Hearts on the opening day of the Premiership campaign, with Celtic seeing off Kilmarnock 4-0 the following day. While it remains very early days, Rangers face at least five league matches in their new temporary home, and several European ones depending on how they fare in next week’s Champions League third qualifying round second leg against Dynamo Kyiv.
Clement has urged fans to bring the noise for that one, but it’s going to be difficult to recreate the advantage Ibrox can give them on big European nights. The more immediate priority taking is taking care of business domestically in somewhat unfamiliar surroundings.
But the attempts to Rangers-ify the home of Scottish football have begun. Club branding is springing up above stadium entrances. And there will no doubt be more alterations internally in the build up to Saturday’s game.
