Breaking News:Rangers have had ‘nightmare’ summer as Chris Sutton warns of Philippe Clement contract backfire

Chris Sutton has branded Rangers’ summer a “nightmare” as he reflected on the club’s decision to hand Philippe Clement a new contract.

The Ibrox club dealt their boss in with an extension last week in what was a somewhat surprising move. Sutton, though, felt it was a display of unity and a clear message to both fans and players that the Belgian is in Glasgow for the long haul. Given the nature of the game, though, the Light Blues failed to win their opening league game against Hearts and some supporters were critical of Clement’s tactics on the day.

For Celtic hero Sutton, he knows just how fickle the game can be and if poor results continue for any length of time, the manager could find himself in a difficult situation.

And that would compound what has been a tough summer full of rebuild in terms of playing staff as well as at Ibrox in general considering the work being done and delays on the stands seeing their home games shift to Hampden.

“Philippe Clement signing a new contract on the eve of the season was a display of togetherness from Rangers,” Sutton told Best Online Poker Sites. “However, lets get it right, they’ve had a nightmare over the summer. They now have to play their home games at Hampden Park and it’s been really embarrassing for them – they’re in a bit of a muddle.

“I get why he’s signed the new deal but if in two months’ time they’ve lost to Celtic, been knocked out of the Champions League and started slowly then they’ll have thousands of fans wanting him out.
