Breaking News:Philippe Clement not safe from Rangers sack despite new Ibrox developments
Rangers will still sack Philippe Clement if the fans turn on the Belgian regardless of the fact he signed a new deal at Ibrox, according to Si Ferry.
The Light Blues confirmed ahead of their matches with Hearts and Dynamo Kyiv that the Belgian had put pen to paper on a new four-year deal in Glasgow to extend his stay until the end of 2028.
Although it has been suggested that the new contract is a sign that the Gers board are behind Clement, Open Goal presenter Ferry believes the Rangers boss could still leave if the Light Blues start the season badly.
Speaking on The Open Goal YouTube channel (6 August, 23:20)he said: “If he starts bad, they’ll sack him won’t they?
“See when the fans start booing after 60 minutes he will do it. We’ve seen it a million times. If the fans turn, he’s gone.”
Will Rangers sack Philippe Clement after Ibrox contract developments?
Fans do tend to get managers sacked at football clubs, particularly in Glasgow where supporters can quite easily vote with their feet, but it does feel as though the Light Blues want to step away from that model this season.
The constant changes to the squad both in the dugout and the changing room have made it almost impossible for the club to discover any sort of consistency over the last few seasons and Clement wants to change that.
His summer rebuild may not have been as extravagant as most expected and even the most optimistic of supporters would admit the Gers are still a way behind Celtic, but games like the draw against Dynamo Kyiv show there is quality there.
The Belgian’s CV shows that he is a good manager and while his tactical decisions and team selections may leave fans confused a lot of the time, he clearly knows what it takes to win matches and silverware.
Hopefully, Ferry is wrong and the Gers board will stand by him. It won’t be an easy transition, but he has the skill set to bring success back to the blue half of Glasgow sooner rather than later.
