Cyriel Dessers man of the match, Ridvan Yilmaz 4/10 – Rangers player ratings v Dynamo KyivUK

Rangers drew their Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv 1-1 in what was quite an end-to-end game.

James Tavernier was let off in the first 15 minutes after Kyiv’s first goal was offside, however, the Gers were unfortunately not as lucky in the 40th minute where Ridvan Yilmaz gave the ball away and allowed Kyiv to take the lead.

The second half wasn’t much better for Rangers, but, Jefte was a breath of fresh air and improved the squad tenfold and Dessers’ last-minute goal somewhat softened the blow.

Here, Ibrox News rates the players out of 10 for their performance against Dynamo Kyiv.

Jack Butland – 6

Regularly tested throughout the tie, couldn’t have done anything more to stop Kyiv from scoring their goal, and gave the ball away a couple of times.

James Tavernier – 7

Solid throughout the tie, couple of mistakes here and there, was unlucky that his shot around the 15th minute didn’t go in. Free kick towards the dying embers of first-half was a perfect delivery, unlucky that Cyriel Dessers couldn’t put it in.

Leon Balogun – 5

Committed one of the first fouls of the game, also had some decent progressive passes and managed to hold his own against Vladyslav Vanat.

John Souttar – 6

Decent game overall, played Andriy Yarmolenko onside for his goal, and his regular passing from the back started one of the Gers’ first attacks

Ridvan Yilmaz – 4

Didn’t have the best of games, and was at fault for Andriy Yarmolenko’s goal after he shockingly gave the ball away at the halfway line.

Connor Barron – 7

His second game in a Gers shirt covered the entirety of the pitch and managed to push forward when needed, made plenty of progressive passes but didn’t have much to do in the second half and was brought off for Dujon Sterling.

Mohamed Diomande – 7

Decent game overall, often dropped deep and offered support when needed. Made an excellent challenge in the 59th minute to stop Kyiv from being through on goal. His performance improved further during the second half, ran himself into the ground.

Tom Lawrence – 7

Showed that the number 10 role is where his talents shine, had a few misplaced passes but was overall a positive addition to Clement’s attacking line.

Scott Wright – 7

Had a strong first half, but was replaced by Jefte at halftime to give the team more stability on the left-hand side. One of the key factors to many of the Gers’ first-half attacks.

Cyriel Dessers – 8 – (Man of the Match)

Found himself in all the correct positions and had the best chances of the game. He, fortunately, managed to reimburse Clement’s faith in him as he bagged a last-minute goal to etch out a draw for the club.

Ross McCausland – 8

One of the best players in the Glasgow-based outfit’s squad. Made himself available for every ball and unfortunately missed a perfect chance for the Gers to take the lead after cutting in from the right wing.

Jefte (on for Wright, 45′) – 8

Jefte was brought on to bring stability and did just that, provided a peach of a ball to desserts in the 52nd minute who couldn’t score, created the vast majority of Rangers’ attacks in the second half, overall a strong European debut for his new club.

Vaclav Cerny (on for McCausland, 59′) – 6

Started a couple of attacks during his time on the pitch, and even provided the assist for Dessers.

Dujon Sterling (on for Barron, 60′) – 7

Made an instant impact when he entered the pitch, whilst his position was supposed to be in the centre of midfield, he covered the right wing and started most of the team’s chances in the second half.

Kieran Dowell (on for Diomande, 80′) – 6

Got stuck into the thick of it straight away, orchestrated a few passes and made one or two attacking opportunities in the final 10 minutes.
