Breaking News:Club director to ‘meet with’ Nottingham Forest to find Jose Mourinho transfer solution
Fenerbache are showing interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare according to reports.
The Turkish giants – now managed by Jose Mourinho have made the Forest man their priority as they look to build a defensive base to their midfield. They were previously linked to Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but he was pictured in France last night ahead of a proposed move to Olympique Marseille.
Dirilis Postasi reported that the Portuguese manager is keen on Sangare and Crystal Palace midfielder Jefferson Lerma who cuts a similar defensively solid option for the Istanbul-based side.
Sangare arrived in Nottingham in 2023 after spending three years with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven – where he won the KNVB Cup twice – in a successful spell in the Netherlands. In September 2023 he arrived at the City Ground for a reported fee of £30m. However, the price tag weighed heavily on the midfielder who endured a poor season making just 17 appearances and failing to register a single-goal involvement.
Under Steve Cooper ’s tutelage, the Ivorian featured often until he was suspended before the AFCON in January. He did not feature again until a League match against Aston Villa in February. He returned to the squad the following game week but did not feature against Liverpool. Since then, Nuno Espirito Santo has opted for Ryan Yates, Danil, and Nicolas Dominguez ahead of the 26-year-old with the former Toulouse man playing a sporadic role.
Speaking about Sangare in December, the former Wolves boss said: “He [Sangare] is not in his best moment yet. He was seriously ill, he lost weight and it is his groin. But he is definitely an option for us.” The thought that niggly injuries and illness have been an overriding factor in his lack of minutes is certainly a possibility.
