Exclusive: Nottingham Forest 21-yr-old in advanced talks to join new club permanent

Nottingham Forest defender Aaron Donnelly is in advanced talks to join Dundee in a permanent move, sources have told Football Insider.

Donnelly has entered the final year of his deal at the City Ground, and Forest have now given the green light for his exit.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Dundee, making 21 appearances for the Scottish Premiership outfit.

His performances during his loan spell made him a priority in the summer transfer window and a deal is now edging closer following positive talks between all parties.

After an agreement is reached on the terms of his contract, the centre-back will travel to the Riverside Training Hub to undergo a medical.

Donnelly made the move to Forest from Northern Irish outfit Dungannon Swifts in 2019 before signing his first professional deal with the club in 2021.

He made his first senior appearance in the EFL Cup in 2022 before signing a contract extension later that year, but has not featured since.

His loan move to Dundee saw him make 21 appearances and establish himself as a key member of Tony Docherty’s side.

The defender had to endure a slow start to his career in Scotland, playing just three of the opening 13 games of the season, but established himself later in the season and was involved in 13 of the final 15 games.

As a result, his permanent signing became a priority for Dundee as they look to pick up where they left off last time out after an impressive campaign.

Donnelly helped the team to finish sixth last season, having been promoted the year before, as they look to become regular fixtures in the Premiership.

In other news, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be about to quit Everton.
