Breaking News:John Bennett torn to shreds over £10.5m ‘black hole’ at Rangers

Gary Keown has slammed Rangers chairman John Bennett after making an unsustainable £10.5million “black hole” admission.

Bennett has come under fire in recent weeks due to construction works at Ibrox seeing the opening home games of the season being played at Hampden Park.

In a rare interview from the chairman, he discussed “nature abhors a vacuum” which has left Light Blues fans and Keown fearing for the worst.

Writing in the Scottish Mail on Sunday (4 August, page 85), he said: ” Bennett once felt like he could be a voice of reason at Rangers, but those days are over.

“In May 2021, he was on record as saying Rangers could be self-sustainable within 18 months. Now, he’s saying the way they work- with a £10.5m black hold- is totally unstable.”

John Bennett slammed for Rangers role

The situation surrounding the Gers and their stadium dwelling for the beginning of the season has been a total mess.

Moving into a new campaign without a home ground is not a good look and it says it all that a move to Hampden was the best of a bad situation.

This has just added to a sense of negativity around the Rangers hierarchy given the lack of positive transfer business throughout the summer.

With the chairman admitting that there is a £10.5m shortfall in the Rangers’ finances, this hardly comes as a surprise.

There is no doubt that Bennett has contradicted himself in recent years having changed from ‘self-sustainable’ talk to now being ‘unsustainable’.

This could certainly be dangerous for a club that has already dealt with so much financial turmoil in recent years.

Keown is clearly unimpressed by the Rangers chairman and believes he needs help “to write his scripts” when addressing fans moving forward.
