Newcastle United co-owner ends 49-day ‘silence’ with message to supporters
Jamie Reuben was back on social media to react to Newcastle United’s 4-0 victory at Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Alexander Isak claimed a hat-trick at Portman Road – becoming the first Magpies player since Ayoze Perez against Southampton in April 2019 to do that, while Jacob Murphy was also on the scoresheet.
It was Newcastle’s third win in seven days, following on from victories at home versus Leicester City and Brentford. It ends a very positive week for Eddie Howe’s men, who have moved up to 7th in the Premier League and set up a Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.
But rather than hail the performance, Reuben – when taking to X after the game – preferred to pay tribute to the travelling Newcastle supporters who made the 570-mile round trip to East Anglia just days before Christmas.
“Really great performance under difficult conditions,” said the Newcastle co-owner, making reference to the heavy rain in the first-half. “Thank you to the travelling @NUFC supporters for what I know is a very long way to travel. Up the Mags!”
Reuben has been rather quiet on social media of late with his last post coming after the 1-0 win over Arsenal on November 2.
Newcastle next play on Boxing Day when they host Aston Villa and Reuben may be in attendance, as he often is at St James’ Park.
The British businessman has held a stake in Newcastle since October 2021, which increased from 10% to 15% in the summer after RB Sports & Media and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia acquired Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s remaining shares.
The Magpies, who travel to Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday, are aiming to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup for the second time in three seasons.
Brentford beat United 4-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium 10 days ago but haven’t won at St James’ Park since their promotion to the Premier League in 2021. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s side have only lost three times on home turf in 2024.
