Chicago Bulls Make Bold Nikola Vucevic Trade Decision.
The Chicago Bulls made it to the playoffs in 2021-22, the only time in seven seasons. With an average start to the 2024-25 season, they sit at 9th in the East with a record of 11-15. The team needed a rebuild, but the Bulls management could not get any draft picks for the trade of Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder, only ending up with Josh Giddey in return. Although the sign-and-trade for DeMar DeRozan landed them a couple of second-round picks. Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine are the next big names expected to depart Chicago. And the Bulls are hoping to get some draft compensation in a trade deal involving the former.
According to Marc Stein (via Hoops Hype), Chicago is said to be seeking a first-round pick to part with Vucevic. Vucevic is putting together one of the best seasons of his career right now. He is averaging 21.0 points, 3.2 assists and 9.8 rebounds per game while shooting a remarkable 58.7% from the field and 47.4% from three-point range. Both shooting numbers would blow away his previous career highs and it would be incredible if he is able to keep up this type of efficiency through the season. It looks like the Bulls see it as an opportunity to get a good trade offer for the veteran, after failing to do so in the past.
Chicago’s rumoured willingness to listen to offers for these veterans signals a clear affinity towards a rebuild. Will they get the trade packages they are hoping for? Time shall tell.
