Ruud van Nistelrooy confirm the return of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Latest Leicester City transfer news and opinion as Kieran Dewsbury-Hall’s emotional return to the King Power Stadium is analysed after summer investment
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall never wanted to leave Leicester City after becoming the star man at the King Power Stadium last season. But when a club of Chelsea’s size shows genuine interest, you simply can’t say no.
The midfielder’s move to Stamford Bridge is expected to have been influenced by Enzo Maresca’s decision to join Chelsea. The Italian left Leicester after helping the Foxes to an instant return to the Premier League.
However, since his £30million exit in the summer, Dewsbury-Hall’s career has stagnated. The 26-year-old has played 14 times for Chelsea this season but he is yet to start a Premier League game – playing just 55 league minutes across five substitute appearances.
The chunk of his action has come in the Conference League with him starting four of their five games so far. Thanks to Chelsea’s bloated squad, Maresca has been able to exclude Cole Palmer and Wesley Fofana in Europe for the first part of the season meaning Dewsbury-Hall has been turned too.
Recently, The Mirror reported that the west Londoners are willing to allow Dewsbury-Hall and fellow midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka leave the club on loan in January. Unsurprisingly, Leicester have been mentioned as one of the clubs showing interest in the former Fox.
Leicester would have to free up one of their loan spots for a potential deal to go through with Facundo Buononatte and Odsonne Edouard currently at the club. There has been talks of potentially cancelling the latter’s temporary move.
However, even if Edouard does return to Crystal Palace, how would Dewsbury-Hall fit into Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team? Certain sections of the fanbase would love to see him back for his passion and love for the club but there are question marks over whether he would get the minutes he desires.
