Thierry Henry makes Everton claim live on Sky Sports after what he has seen
Thierry Henry believes the size of clubs like Everton and West Ham United adds additional pressure on their managers.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the Irons’ 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Monday (16 December), the Frenchman, who was once linked with becoming an assistant manager at Goodison Park, expressed his desire to see them give more time to Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium.
However, he added that the Toffees as well as the Hammers feel they should always be higher up the table than they are, making life difficult for those in charge.
“They [West Ham] were minutes away, apart from that free-kick, from winning back-to-back games, so it would have been a great result [against Bournemouth]”, Henry said.
“I hope it can give him [Lopetegui] time to perform and show what he’s about. But again, I go back to what I said before.
“Sometimes, at West Ham, Everton and Newcastle, clubs like that feel like they should be higher and doing better than what the team are actually doing.
“So, that can be something that can work against him.”
Sean Dyche will agree with Thierry Henry at Everton
Henry is right about clubs like Everton and West Ham demanding more from their managers and players, with more often than not pressure coming from both the hierarchy and the fans.
And, Sean Dyche will surely agree with the former Arsenal forward.
However, there is no doubt that a club like the Toffees should not be lingering around the relegation zone 15 games into the season.
The Merseyside-based club have gone from competing to qualify for European competitions to consistently battling relegation.
It is worth noting that they are only three points above the drop zone, albeit with a game in hand.
Therefore, it is understandable why Dyche is under pressure at Goodison Park.
