Breaking news:Kasper Schmeichel rejected Celtic terms and conditions, refused contract extension due to…
KASPER SCHMEICHEL has stated his future at Celtic is taking a back seat to Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup final and the rest of their pursuit of glory.
The Great Dane joined the Hoops as a free in the summer immediately after Euro 2024 signing a one year deal with a further 12-month option to be decided by boss Brendan Rodgers.
Schmeichel’s proved a superb replacement for former England star Joe Hart – with a remarkable 15 clean sheets from 24 appearances, including Tuesday night’s Champions League stalemate in Croatia as the Celts drew 0-0 with Dinamo Zagreb.
Rodgers was put on the spot last week over the 38-year-old keeper’s future but refused to confirm he’d be taking up the clause in the deal for the 111-times capped Denmark idol.
It would be a major shock if the Northern Irishman wasn’t looking to keep Schmeichel.
Then it would be for the former Anderlecht, Nice, Leicester City and Manchester City shot-stopper to decide if he wanted to stay for the 2025-26 campaign.
Premier League and FA Cup winner Schmeichel – who also had a loan spell at Falkirk in 2007 – was a typically safe pair of hands in Zagreb and will be a key man again for the Hampden showdown with Rangers as he seeks his first medal in Scotland.
And he made it clear nothing’s distracting him from his main focus at Parkhead.
On his thought process over his future, Schmeichel responded bluntly: “Next game.”
He went on: “I think with the experience I have, I think the one thing experience has really taught me is to never take anything for granted.
