Dyche must trust Patterson at Everton or risk January move amid Coleman update

Sean Dyche must start trusting Nathan Patterson while Seamus Coleman struggles with injuries at Everton or risk losing him in January.

The Republic of Ireland international could take months to return to full fitness after failing to play first-team football since August.

The 36-year-old did make the bench in the 4-0 win against Wolves (4 December) but with injuries causing problems, an alternative option is required.

Ashley Young has been utilised at right-back so far this campaign but Dyche should start to show faith in Patterson before it is too late.

The 23-year-old has struggled with injury concerns of his own over the past year but is now in the running to feature for the first team.

The Scotland international represents a youthful option at Goodison Park which can only be a boost for the Toffees’ longer-term ambitions.

With that being said, the right-back is keen on making a January move away from Merseyside to help earn a spot in his national squad for 2025’s World Cup qualifiers.

This could see him seek out a loan move in the winter window with several Championship outfits interested in securing his services [Daily Mail].

If the ex-Rangers defender were to depart, Dyche’s squad would be left light with Coleman’s injury concerns and with the potential of Young picking up a concern of his own.

To help avoid a disastrous situation in the second half of the season, the Toffees boss should hand Patterson a regular chance to prove himself before being shipped out on loan.
