BREAKING NEWS;Calvert-Lewin has signed contract deal with Arsenal
Everton face the first of their tricky winter fixtures as they travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal on Saturday.
Sean Dyche’s side head into the clash following an impressive 4-0 win over Wolves, having had their Merseyside derby against Liverpool called off due to dangerous weather.
The Toffees must take on the Gunners, Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest before the New Year, with the latter being the lowest team in the Premier League in 5th place.
While this is a rather daunting prospect, Mikel Arteta’s side showed that teams can take advantage of their weaknesses when drawing 1-1 with Fulham in their last league fixture.
Surprisingly, the Toffees could target Arsenal centre-back William Saliba if they want to secure a positive result at the Emirates. The Frenchman ranks in the bottom 32 percentile for aerials won [FBref].
Everton to target William Saliba weakness against Arsenal
Although the centre-half is a threat in the opposition penalty box, it is clear that he struggles in the air when defending, which means Dominic Calvert-Lewin could lead his team to victory.
The 28-year-old has not been in good form this season, even failing to get on the scoresheet during the 4-0 thrashing of Wolves, but it could be his time to shine.
Against Gary O’Neil’s men, he hit the target with 50 per cent of his shots, made three passes into the final third and was fouled twice, which could have led to dangerous free-kick situations.
Having only won 40 per cent of his ground duels and 38 per cent of his aerial duels, it was a difficult night for the striker, who actually ranks in the top 91 percentile for aerials won, as per FBref.
Winning these aerial battles could be key for bringing his teammates into the game, such as Dwight McNeil, Iliman Ndiaye or Abdoulaye Doucoure, who can be natural-born finishers.
