HE IS BACK:Philippe Clement confirmed the return of former best player Abdallah Shima few minutes ago…..
Philippe Clement made a brave call in naming shima among the substitutes for Thursday’s (28 November) Europa League clash in the south of France.
The Gers raced into a 4-0 lead inside 54 minutes, with Hamza Igamane – the man brought into the side to replace Dessers – netting twice.
Vaclav Cerny and Mohamed Diomande were also on target and, while Badredine Bouanani did pull one back to make it 4-1, there is no doubt this was the best display of the campaign thus far.
Rangers rip Nice apart in emphatic Europa League win
While it must be factored in just how terrible Nice were defensively, it is surely no coincidence that Rangers clicked into gear in an attacking sense as soon as Dessers was dropped.
And once the Nigerian was introduced with the game wrapped up, he produced a quite remarkable miss when it looked easier to score.
That shocker, combined with Igamane’s two goals and an assist on his best night in a Gers shirt – even if Ally McCoist did find one fault – must surely spell the beginning of the end for Dessers.
While it can sound hyperbolic to suggest Rangers need to sell him in January, especially when considering he’s the leading scorer this season, it is quite clear he is not the answer.
That was clear last weekend when he was hauled off at half-time against Dundee United; it was arguably even more clear as he sat on the bench in France.
Rangers need to sell Cyriel Dessers in January transfer window
Rangers, in an ideal world, will recoup as much money as possible for Dessers in January and spend that on another striker – one who takes chances far more consistently.
The Europa League is very much papering over the cracks right now – not that it can ever be considered a bad thing – and this win needs to be the night Clement decides to go down a different road.
