Deal confirmed:Aston Villa close in on Romano Schmid after confirmed news – sources…
Aston Villa are closing in on a move for Werner Bremen’s Romano Schmid, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 24-year-old wouldn’t “cost that much.”
Villa are set to showcase ambition in the January transfer window as Unai Emery wants to bolster his squad to ensure that they’re capable of competing for a Champions League place once again.
Werner Bremen’s sporting director has publicly spoken about Villa’s potential interest but suggested that while a deal is unlikely in January it could be an option in the summer transfer window.
Emery wants to strengthen his squad from a position where they are going to be regulars in the top four, which the club is hoping to do while still being in Europe.
The attacking midfielder is a regular for the Bundesliga giants, with his performances capturing the attention of teams across Europe.
Romano Schmid would bring attacking quality to Aston Villa
Schmid is a proven commodity at the top level and has already made 13 appearances this season for Werner Bremen.
The Austria international has scored 32 goals and provided 50 assists throughout his 263 career appearances at various levels, and he has been able to gain experience playing in Europe as well.
Emery is actively looking to add more attacking quality to his Villa side as he attempts to close the gap on the top four this season.
Aston Villa
Villa currently sit eighth in the table after the first 12 matches, with the club having won five of those fixtures.
Emery’s side are back in action on Sunday (1 December) against Chelsea.
