Shocking News:Philippe Clement speaks out as Rangers make behind-the-scenes move…

Philippe Clement has expressed his delight at Patrick Stewart being appointed the new chief executive officer at Rangers.

The former Manchester United interim CEO is set to take charge at Ibrox on 16 December after the departure of James Bisgrove earlier this year.

Speaking in the press conference ahead of the game against OGC Nice in the Europa League, as relayed by the Glaswegian club on X [27 November], the Belgian manager has given his backing to Stewart.

“It is very important and I’m happy that he (Stewart) has been appointed as CEO, and look forward to him joining in a few weeks,” he said.

“Looking forward to the club taking a step forward again.”

Patrick Stewart needs to make Philippe Clement call at Rangers

If Clement manages to survive in the Light Blues’ dugout until mid-December, then the new CEO will have a big decision regarding the manager’s future at the Bears.

The Belgian has failed to inspire the team this season, with the Gers sitting 11 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Getting the team into second place now seems like the realistic target, but even that’s a tall order, considering Aberdeen have a nine-point lead over them.

The Light Blues slowly seem to be getting back on track after a tumultuous few months with the departures of Bisgrove and John Bennett.

Malcolm Offord is also potentially set to be named the new chairman of the Bears [The Scottish Sun, 25 November] and will take over from John Gilligan, who took over as the interim earlier this year.

Clement could be out of the door before Stewart’s arrival, though, if things against Nice don’t go to plan on 28 November at the Allianz Riviera, and the Glaswegian club have already been dealt a slight blow with some of the travelling fans having their tickets cancelled by the French outfit [Rangers Review, 27 November].
