Shocking News:Everton to sell Calvert-Lewin amid new transfer update, could be final chance…
Dominic Calvert-Lewin continues to be a frustrating figure at Everton as the goals have once again dried up.
The 27-year-old has only hit the back of the net in two Premier League matches this season, last scoring in the 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa all the way back in September.
While his backup, Beto, has managed to score since then, helping the Toffees to a 1-1 draw with Fulham last month, Sean Dyche’s side are still struggling in the final third.
This was evident more than ever against Brentford on Saturday 23 November after competing against 10 men for the entire second half and still having to settle for a goalless draw at Goodison Park.
If Dyche is to keep his job on Merseyside and move the Toffees away from the dreaded relation zone, he could be about to make a difficult decision on his striker ahead of the January transfer window.
Everton to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January?
According to ASRomaLive [24 November], the manager could decide to sell the 27-year-old in the upcoming transfer window, with Aston Villa and Newcastle United said to be interested.
With his current contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 campaign and no sign of him extending his stay, the Toffees risk losing Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer next summer if he stays in January.
Of course, it would be a huge risk to get rid of the striker, who has been at Goodison Park since 2016, but the money from his sale could be invested into a new forward during the transfer window.
However, with just nine league goals to his name over the last two campaigns, and being labelled “horrendous” by Michael Ball recently [Liverpool Echo], it seems Dyche only has one decision to make.
Many supporters would suggest that the club made a mistake by not replacing the striker last summer, with Newcastle making their interest known [TBR Football], but the chance of receiving a transfer fee is quickly slipping away.
