Breaking News:Leeds united best player receive a heartbreaking contract announcement
Leeds United winger Dan James has become a crucial part of Daniel Farke’s squad since relegation, and could be in line for a new deal as a result.
Dan James’ history with Leeds is more interesting than most, having held up the shirt and posed with contracts back in 2019, only not to sign for the club and end up at the Whites’ bitter rivals the following summer.
A move to Elland Road did materialise for him further down the line though, as he was one of the side’s only signings in the 2021 summer window, arriving on deadline day from Manchester United to bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Having struggled to make a consistent impact first time around, he was shipped out to Fulham in 22/23 as Leeds were relegated, seeing him return to West Yorkshire and become a favourite under Daniel Farke.
Here, we look at how much the winger is earning at the club right now amid reports of a new deal talks possibly looming…
How much did Leeds pay for him?
Leeds paid £25million to the Red Devils to bring the Wales international to the better side of the Pennines in 2021, a fee that didn’t break the club’s transfer record set by Rodrigo in the previous summer.
James penned a five-year deal until the summer of 2026 when he joined.
How much is he earning?
According to Capology, Dan James had been earning a wage of £50,000-per-week at Leeds ever since making the move, but that would have changed due to the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
The squad were subject to wage cuts due to relegation, per The Athletic, as much as 60%, meaning that James’ earnings would be slashed to between £20,000-£25,000 weekly – banking a salary of £1.4million a year or more.
James’ deal is up in the summer of 2026, meaning that he’s into the final two years of his current contract, perhaps seeing his transfer value reduce somewhat – something that could become more of a headache in 2025 when he’s into the final 18 months.
