Regis Le Bris ‘excited’ for huge Sunderland challenge as Championship race heats up
Regis Le Bris does not see the next three games as season-defining for Sunderland, but admitted, “it’s a big challenge, it’s a massive week.”
His depleted squad face Millwall in east London on Saturday before taking on West Bromwich Albion at home on Tuesday night before a trip to Sheffield United next Friday. And without his suspended trio as well as injured pair Alan Browne and Romaine Mundle for the first one, it’s a daunting task.
But we struggled, for example, against Plymouth when the winger was on fire and it was impossible to stop him and we were confident with our triangle but it wasn’t possible. We have to find a new set-up but for me it’s very exciting. Football is like that, we need 22 players, there are many games and this is normal.”
He continued: “We are building a strong future, with many talented players playing as a unit and they have to repeat and evolve. We have to make progress, create new layers and assess the depth of the squad. Our main focus is to improve the situation by managing the players we have in the squad. And reassess this game model when we have to adapt different elements. ”
Looking too far ahead is not how Le Bris ticks and he explained: “In this competition, it’s day by day. I want to say to the media, the fans, believe in our game model, our structure, our squad, our players. Obviously we will struggle sometimes. But bad periods are very important to build the next period. Enjoy when it’s good,
