David Prutton gets it totally wrong as Leeds United gem Willy Gnonto snubbed
David Prutton has had a shocker by leaving Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto out of his Championship Team of the Season so far.
The Sky Sports presenter included Pascal Struijk as his only Leeds representative in the squad [Sky Sports, 21 November], but to only include one Whites player from arguably the most in-form side in the division is scandalous.
While Struijk has been producing stellar performances at Elland Road this season, and his inclusion is justified, the brutal decision to include Millwall forward Romain Esse over Wilfried Gnonto is a monumental oversight.
The Italy Under-21s international has been the difference-maker for Leeds on several occasions already this season and is on track for his most productive year in West Yorkshire.
Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto deserves to be in Team of the Season
Gnonto has struggled to find consistent form for club and country this season, but his impact in the Championship has been undoubtedly crucial for Daniel Farke.
The 21-year-old has carried the side on his back at times, recording two assists in the 2-2 draw against Sunderland, scoring and assisting in the 3-0 win against Coventry City and assisting Largie Ramazani for the crucial equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Norwich City.
Furthermore, Gnonto has notched two goals and five assists in 15 Championship outings, whereas Esse has only managed three goals and one assist in the same number of appearances.
Considering that the forward has been forced to contend with Ramazani, Dan James and Manor Solomon for a starting berth, he has proved to be a cut above the rest among the fiercest competitions for places in the division.
