Abdallah Sima deal no-brainer for Rangers after Philippe Clement confirms Brighton hopes

Rangers signing Abdallah Sima before the transfer deadline is not going to happen unless more players leave the club first, says Derek Ferguson.

Philippe Clement confirmed to Rangers Review on 16 July that he wanted to bring the Senegalese forward back to Ibrox but it was currently unaffordable, although he hoped it might become possible later in the window.

The Daily Record has since reported on 19 July the Light Blues had made a massive £7million-plus bid to sign long-term target Morgan Whittaker from Plymouth Argyle

Ex-Gers midfielder Ferguson is in full support of any move to bring Sima back this summer but isn’t confident in seeing any such sizeable deals happen without more significant departures.

He spoke exclusively to Ibrox News and said: “We’ve been linked with a couple of other players around the £5million – £6million mark.

“Sima would at least take that. If we could get Sima, if we had a few bob to go out and get him, it’s a no-brainer.

“He knows what we’re all about. The manager loves him. He, by all accounts, loves the club and he enjoys playing in Scotland. He’s maybe suited to our football.

“So he’s a no-brainer, but at the end of the day the facts are the facts, there’s no money there.

“Until we get players out the door that ain’t going to happen.”

Rangers to keep selling after Sam Lammers, Connor Goldson

After weeks of stasis in the transfer market the sales that Clement admitted were needed in order to buy [Rangers Review, 13 July] are finally starting to go through after Sam Lammers went to FC Twente and Connor Goldson headed for Aris Limassol.

The exit of the Dutch forward for a reported £2.8m has opened the door to pursue Lawrence Shankland at Hearts [Daily Record, 29 July].

But unless the reported Whittaker bid hints that there is far more cash available than thought it is surely going to take a few more sales to be able to fund anything for the winger, or his Brighton counterpart Sima.
