Speaking on the BBC, Robert Huth said he’s played against Didier Drogba and Alan Shearer in his time, but Chris Wood is really starting to impress him.
“I used to hate playing against an old-school number nine. I probably played against one of the best in [Didier] Drogba and Alan Shearer, you knew in the game, you knew the ball was going to come in the box and you’re having to defend.
“I actually had Woody [Chris Wood] when I was at Leicester when he first came through, so I know exactly what he’s like. He’s always been a great finisher and always had really good movement in the box, but as the game developed into a different direction with a false number nine, he didn’t probably get the chance at other Premier League clubs that he should have had.”
How good is Chris Wood?
Chris Wood just seems to get better with age.
His knack for getting into the right positions at the right times is unmatched, as a real poacher and target man in the box for Nottingham Forest.
Even Martin O’Neill said he’s surprised at how good Wood has been, especially since he’s now the joint-second top scorer in the Premier League.
It’s safe to say that Wood has transformed his career at the City Ground, with a new contract even being flirted with at the age of 32.
It takes a special kind of player to still be putting up the numbers Wood is at his age, especially with how quick and impressive the centre-backs are in the top flight nowadays.
