There are just five days to go until Celtic unfurl their league flag and Brendan Rodgers has yet to sign an outfield player.
The Hoops kick off their defence of the title in Sunday’s Premiership curtain-raiser against Kilmarnock but, as things stand, will head into the showpiece with a weaker squad than they had last season. Goalkeepers Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo have checked in but the champions have been frustrated in their attempts to secure a new left-back and central defender, plus the returns of loan stars Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah.
A couple of new names have been linked with Celtic this morning, and here, we examine the seven biggest transfer headlines.
Football Scotland understands Celts have not yet lodged an improved bid since their initial £4million offer was rejected by Norwich City. And now, reports claim that Serie A duo Fiorentina and Hellas Verona are poised to enter the race for his signature. Idah is currently in Austria with the Canaries – despite missing his flight – but won’t feature against Hoffenheim tonight as he nurses a slight knock. The striker has made it clear he wants to move back to Parkhead after a sensational six-month loan spell.
Jacen Russell-Rowe
It’s believed the Hoops have had multiple offers rejected by Columbus Crew for Canada attacker Russell-Rowe. The rising MLS star was involved for his country at Copa America and is an international teammate of Alistair Johnston. Reports emerging overnight from the USA stated that an “unnamed Scottish club” had launched bids for the highly-rated starlet, but the Crew’s asking price has not yet been met. Rodgers revealed last week that he wants to sign two strikers this summer to compete with Kyogo.
Tommy Conway
Scotland cap Conway had been linked with both Celtic and Rangers earlier in the summer but Middlesbrough are now in the driving seat for his signature. Conway, 21, broke into Steve Clarke’s Euro 2024 squad after a blistering campaign with Bristol City. The attacker is in the final year of his contract at Ashton Gate and wants to move on this summer. EFL Championship rivals Boro have opened talks over a £5m deal which would likely put both Old Firm clubs out of contention.
