Shocking News:Keith Wyness drops verdict on Nottingham Forest’s next signing

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Nottingham Forest need to prioritise strengthening their defence ahead of next season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lacked cover for some of their first-team players last season.

The Portuguese boss led Forest to safety after replacing Steve Cooper as the club’s manager last December.

Although they only finished one place above the relegation zone, the club were handed a four-point deduction after being charged with a spending breach.

Forest have been active in the transfer market after already securing five signings this summer, with Elliot Anderson, Nikola Milenkovic, Marko Stamenic, Carlos Miguel and Eric da Silva Moreira all joining the club.

Nottingham Forest must bring in cover for first-team stars

But Wyness has suggested Nuno will still be looking to add some more balance to his squad to ensure they are not overly reliant on their star players again next season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think cover in the defence is still something they are a little bit short on. I expect it to happen.

“Last season revealed that they haven’t got the cover.

“I think Nuno is going to be working on having some balance behind the main players and having a squad-based situation.

“That’s what they need to be consistent because everybody gets the injuries and they have got to have that consistency to push up the league table.”
