GOOD NEWS FOR EVERTON;He has decided to return….
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has “refused” efforts from Everton to sign him to a new contract, according to The Mirror.
David Anderson reported via the paper’s website on 26 October that the striker wants to keep his options open as his current deal counts down within its final year.
But Sean Dyche delivered an update on the situation the same day, confirming there are no plans to allow a transfer exit for the 27-year-old in January, in order to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer.
The manager said: “To be giving players away at any cost because you need some money, fortunately we’ve never been pushed that far and that’s still the same now
“We can still make decisions on situations and I can’t see anything other than him being here certainly until the end of his contract and then hopefully beyond.”
Despite Dan Friedkin’s takeover progressing it has not yet convinced Calvert-Lewin to commit his future to the club, and Dyche has defended that decision, saying: “Maybe it’s his agent, saying wait and see. I don’t know, and that would be fair, wouldn’t it?”
Sean Dyche rules out January Everton sale
If the manager is so calm about the situation it potentially suggests that what the ex-England international is waiting for is confirmation of the takeover before committing, rather than necessarily looking for better offers.
Either way, unless or until he is actually signed up the door remains open to an offer he can’t refuse coming in from elsewhere, even if his intention is to remain once Friedkin’s deal gets over the line.
But it hasn’t led to success yet, but in theory it should only be foreign clubs who are able to turn his head in the January window, with Juventus interested thanks to his contract status [Corriere dello Sport, 13 October], and Besiktas arriving into the frame [Fotomac, 24 October].
