Wrexham have announced the short-term signing of a Manchester United academy product amid the club’s injury crisis.

The League One side confirmed midfielder Matty James has joined until January.

James, who made over 100 appearances for Leicester City and boasts nearly 250 games worth of Championship experience, was a free agent after he left Bristol City in the summer.

He also made 42 appearances in the top flight with the Foxes and was part of the squad who won the Premier League – albeit without making an appearance due to a serious knee injury.

“It feels great to be given the opportunity to play again and to join a Club that’s moving in a direction that everybody’s watching,” James told Wrexham’s website.

“I’m over the moon, and can’t wait to get started.”

James, who had been training with Leicester to maintain his fitness, especially hopes to ‘enjoy playing football again’.

“I want to build up in terms of fitness and game time – and there’s a lot of games coming up, so I want to earn some minutes and move forward from there,” James said.

Also arriving at Wrexham is former Bolton Wanderers striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Phil Parkinson’s side had been in the market for a striker after they lost Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott to long-term injuries.

Marriott is out for four months after he sustained a broken fibula during training while 37-year-old Fletcher had a knee injury flare up during Wrexham’s 1-0 win against Rotherham.

James’ arrival also helps soften the blow of losing midfielder George Evans as he underwent surgery to fix damaged ankle ligaments.

Andy Cannon and George Dobson are also on the brink of a suspension having accumulated four yellow cards each this season.

Wrexham were able to draft in James and Bodvarsson as they had left two spots open in the squad they registered with the EFL.
