SHOCKING NEWS:Nottingham Forest losses a key player to the transfer window few minutes ago…

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo is busy reshaping his squad and during pre-season lots of players have enjoyed the chance of a clean slate.

The Reds have so far played Chesterfield on home soil and have also played games against Sunderland, Millwall and Elche in Spain.

It’s been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of the players used in those games but in the final two friendlies, perhaps more cohesion will be evident.

Forest would still like to move a few players on and now there could be a surprise move for one man who has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien set for surprise loan move

At another time, O’Brien would have proved a wonderful Forest signing but he’s now way down the pecking order.

During the 2022/23 campaign, the 25-year-old was a regular in the time for the first half of the season.

He made 14 appearances but then picked up an illness that saw him lose his place in the team and his place in the 25-man squad.

A loan move to DC United saw him link up with Wayne Rooney and now he’s set to go back to the MLS.

According to BBC Sport, O’Brien is now nearing a move to LA Galaxy for the remainder of the year.

It’s claimed that there will be a £5 million buy option in the loan deal and that would see Forest lose money on the £10 million which they paid for the midfielder.

O’Brien will hope to help Galaxy pick up a second title in three years and his chances of regular football will be far higher there than they would be at Forest.

O’Brien deserves fresh start away from Forest

Ultimately, the Reds performer has seen a number of midfield players come in at Forest and overtake him in the pecking order.

O’Brien will now get the chance to build on his loan at Middlesbrough last season and play regular football.

The player would be a useful Forest player had they been relegated in the last two years but as a Premier League player, the jury remains out.

Given everything he’s been through since arriving at Forest it’s hard not to feel some sympathy for O’Brien and hopefully, this loan can work out for him.
