Breaking News:Celtic reach agreement for Paulo Bernardo, medical set, contract details

Celtic’s pursuit of Paulo Bernardo has been a long drawn out process in the media but the club have finally made the breakthrough they were looking for.

Bernardo spent a productive loan at the club last season after signing from Benfica in search of more regular week-to-week football.

He never quite cemented himself as a first-choice pick in midfield but was a useful squad option, with 15 starts and 18 substitute appearances. The Portuguese talent popped up in some big moments as well, such as scoring in a tight derby victory against Rangers.

Since the end of the season, Celtic have been reported to be in talks with Benfica for Bernardo’s signature with the negotiations, at times, seemingly endless.

Thankfully, more concrete news is now coming out and Celtic are closing in on another transfer announcement.

Paulo Bernardo due for Celtic medical

Stephen McGowan of The Scottish Daily Mail reports that Celtic have finalised details of a transfer fee and personal contract with Bernardo.

He is now due to undergo a medical with the Bhoys before officially being unveiled as the first outfield signing of the summer window.

It’s said that Celtic will pay a fee of around £3.5m for the player with Benfica then due 30% of what he is sold for to another club down the line.

Bernardo will sign a long-term Celtic contract

Now 22, Bernardo is ready to commit his long-term future to the Bhoys and will reportedly sign a five-year deal with the club until the summer of 2029.

Brendan Rodgers will now get the chance to develop Bernardo’s talents further and help him become an established part of the Celtic starting eleven.

This has been a pretty slow summer even by the Bhoys’ standards but with a double goalkeeper signing and now Bernardo almost over the line, we will ideally see the club continue the momentum of positive moves in the market.
