Tottenham hold big advantage in race to sign Spanish winger
Spurs are thought to be strong favourites to sign one of La Liga’s most sought-after wingers in the coming months, and if they do make a move, his current club would be powerless to prevent him leaving.
Puado could leave for nothing
Javi Puado has been catching the eye of late with his performances in Spain, registering three goals in eight games from the left wing in the first eight games of the season for Espanyol.
Spurs are known to be tracking a number of wingers among their list of transfer targets for January and beyond, and Puado is the latest to be mentioned in conjunction with the North Londoners.
According to a report from Spanish publication AS (via SportWitness), the 26-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season, which has Tottenham and Sevilla on red alert as they are both keen on securing his services
While Espanyol are eager to get Puado locked into a new contract, the player’s stance is not known at this time and there is a very real chance he could leave next summer for absolutely nothing.
La Liga clubs can’t compete with Spurs
The newspaper adds that Espanyol’s resources, or relative lack thereof, means that if Spurs, or indeed Sevilla, were to make an approach, it is unlikely they would be able to match the offer. The situation is expected to evolve over the coming months as Puado himself makes his intentions known.
Meanwhile, Mucho Deporte add that Tottenham have already enquired about the Spanish star. It is suggested that if Spurs — or any Premier League club for that matter — were to make a firm approach for Puado, Sevilla would be unable to compete for his signature.
