Rangers ready new Lawrence Shankland move after offer rejected – sources

Rangers are plotting a new move for Lawrence Shankland after he rejected a new Hearts contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that his sources have told him Rangers remain interested in the 29-year-old as a potential replacement for Cyriel Dessers, 29, after his ‘hit-and-miss’ start to the season.

Shankland is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available for a much cheaper price in January if he doesn’t extend his current deal by then.

Rangers had been interested in the striker over the summer but Hearts priced the Glasgow club out of a deal after an impressive 2023-24 season that saw Shankland top the Scottish Premier League scoring charts with 24 goals.

The Scotland international hasn’t been able to recreate that impressive form this campaign, however, scoring just once in 11 games across all competitions.

Rangers see Lawrence Shankland as Cyriel Dessers upgrade

After netting seven goals in Rangers’ first nine games, Dessers has gone four games without a goal, both domestically and in the Europa League.

Still, he remains the club’s top goalscorer, three goals ahead of Welsh playmaker Tom Lawrence in second.

Shankland is currently on international duty with Scotland as they prepare for two tough UEFA Nations League games against Croatia and Portugal.
