WORST NIGHTMARE EVER;“It Ain’t Looking Good” | Investigators Smell Blood as Charges Mount
I’m starting to get incredibly worried about West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá.
While the Brazilian playmaker has been in a tricky situation for the past 12 months, things seem to be getting progressively worse.
Not a day goes by without a new rumour, piece of evidence, or charge being added to the ever-growing list in his betting investigation.
Two weeks ago, Spanish authorities became involved in what is increasingly becoming an international affair. Today, it was reported that Paquetá is now under scrutiny from the Brazilian Football Association.
Just this week, we learned that the English FA’s request for the player to hand over his mobile phone was unsuccessful, leading to additional charges being filed against him.
Paquetá’s uncle, Bruno, has been subpoenaed to give evidence, having been proven to benefit from bets placed on his nephew’s yellow cards. Following this, it was revealed that “Team Paquetá” has hired a top lawyer in an attempt to clear the Hammers playmaker of all charges.
Suffice it to say, the situation doesn’t look promising. Without knowing the full details, it’s impossible for outsiders to predict the outcome of these multiple investigations. However, it does feel like the net is tightening around West Ham’s record signing.
New evidence, charges, and rumours are surfacing so frequently that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to hope for a favourable outcome. There seems to be an unsettling confidence in the way certain details are being leaked, suggesting that a long-term ban feels as case of when rather than if.
Brazil’s national team manager, Dorival Júnior, who was previously full of bravado, has now gone radio silent, and one can only wonder what instructions he’s receiving from the Brazilian FA.
Brazil face Chile in the early hours of tomorrow morning, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Paquetá is left out of the November fixtures.
I’d love to be proven wrong, but recent events have cast a sombre and foreboding shadow over a case that appears to be heading in only one direction.
